about

Songs for the End of the World is, first and foremost, a near-future-neon-dream-high-voltage-post-apocalyptic Gig-Theatre show.
What's gig-theatre? Well, it's a strange mutated splicing together of music gig and theatre show. Isn't that just a musical? No! It's gig-theatre.

And here is the album. All the best bits. All in one go. I've wanted to make this record for a long time. And now here it is. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we've enjoyed making it.

p.s...Here's the backstory...

Where are we? New Albion, a near-future post-brexit, austerity Britain, owned and controlled by mega-corporation New Global.

Jim Walters, a totally unprepared and hapless astronaut is shot into space to become the first man on Mars. On the day of the launch, Armageddon hits and Jim’s rocket gets trapped in orbit around the dying earth. With an ever decreasing amount of Oxygen, all he can do is broadcast his Songs for the End of the World in the hope that someone might here…

The show was co-created by Dom Coyote and Michael Vale,; written by Dom Coyote, Michael Vale and Tom Penn and arranged and devised by the company. It was inspired by Philip K. Dick's post-apocalyptic novel, Dr Bloodmoney.

Commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre and supported by West Yorkshire Playhouse, Tobacco Factory Theatres and Kneehigh. Developed with support from the National Theatre Studio. Funded by Arts Council England.
